First U2 show for me did not live up to the expectations. Yes there were moments, but the again I could not get past the thought established early in the performance that Bono's voice was shot from the tour schedule. He could barely belt out the basic rock and marching anthems that his carrer is built upon. For me it was more grueling than pleasureable. I have to fault his showmanship, or lack thereof. For all the chemistry in the band and the tightness of the ste, their front man is a fringe dud. While applauding his place in the world, his deep concerns for our troubled world, his push to make it better, his coexist theme, he fails to provide the level of engery that the songs and the stage and effects emit. He did hit his stride about the time Beatutiful Day rolled of the tongue. The deep and widespread set list is appreciated. But I goota tell you folks, if you think this is as good a concerts get, you are missing a lot of better performances and shows out there. This will not change my place for this band in the rock era, nor lessen my support, I just think they swung and missed a little in the Mellon Arena, just like its Penguins, they came up a few goals shot of delivering a victory.
