Review
2005-10-16 - Co-existing Across the NYC Universe submitted by Guitar MTGMichele & I - our first dose of live U2 show since the ZOO TV outside broadcast in philly. we were a football field away then, but a first down away now-thanks Chris! the sound was very loud-sometimes too over the top to hear Bono's inflection. ears rang through the morning. Bono always stretching for different inflection and phrasing he acheives some interesting changes from the records which is so great to hear. he didn't have his falsetto though, and One suffered from that as well as a dubious loop/live guitar mix. tremendous lights (blinding even!) and The Edge IS an alien! Enjoyed the steady procession of guitars - the old black strat for SBS, a really rude "ice-pick" sounding cream tele (which Edge threw down to lie against his fender amp, elicitng feed back for the last note of the show), bigsby loaded SG for elevation, the old explorer for gloria, a 335, and tobacco burst strat. Edge has his sound(s) sooo together and just really rips it up - see All Because of You in particular. Larry Mullin is so solid - the band's Rock. Rare these days a rock drummer who plays so in the service of and so vital to the song. very nice encore set with the first time. jumbo acoustics. stuck in a moment for michael hutchence (which for us is for Rich now). enjoyed the snippets, esp an a capella little while. bono thanking the crowd for giving them a great life, waxing on the USA being a great country and NYC being the example of the ability of us to "coexist". And I guess Bono if you're gonna name/lyric drop it might as well be Beatles and Lennon! MSG is special, and so was this night with U2.
Michael
