Review

2005-10-11 - NYC 10-10 submitted by obie

2nd show on this tour, about 20th overall -- much better than the first leg though the middle of the set still drags for me.

Even going was fortuitous, as I snagged a GA at about 2:30 pm from TicketMobster. (woo hoo!) No ellipse but I was able to put myself against the wall on the Adam side, maybe 6-8 feet from the ramp. Keane was decent, and "Wake Up" hit the speakers at about 9:30.

The first 30 minutes were absolutely tremendous - COBY, Vertigo, Elevation, I Will Follow, Electric Co all high energy with Bono jumping and screaming at the crowd. During Electric Co he went by us on the ramp with this furious, (seemingly) unrehearsed kick where you could see the spit and sweat flying off him in the lights. The audience was going crazy. But then Still Haven't Found was kinda pedestrian, and the standard setlist took over. I get the point of Love & Peace / Sunday / Bullet, but the "Coexist" theme feels way too forced. It wasn't until Miss Sarajevo that they fully got the crowd back, with Bono nailing the Pavarotti lines. People ate up Pride & Streets like it was 1987 again, and after Streets Bono walked up the ramp back to the stage saying "Wow... just wow."

During the encore my little section went a bit nuts with gatecrashers, so Zoo Station and The Fly (usually a killer live) were both lost on me a bit. With or Without You was very standard, but ABOY and Bad are, as always, both great. Bad was dedicated to Patti Smith who was in the audience -- Bono said "This is for her, this is 40.... I mean Bad... this is a 40-minute version of Bad."

When I started to walk toward the back during "40" to catch a train I saw the rear of the floor was almost deserted, what with it being 11:45 on a Monday night. All in all a good show; I just wish they'd mix up the middle section a bit.
