from Page Six FANS who missed out on tickets to U2's two sold-out Madison Square Garden dates next week - don't despair just yet.Guitarist the Edge has revealed to The Post that there's a good chance the Grammy-winning Irish superband will be heading back to New York in the fall.

"It works out that we have this window of time in the fall that we can do what we want with - either do more shows or go back into the studio and write some songs," the Edge said over the weekend, during the Boston leg of the group's 49-date "Elevation" tour. "We haven't finally decided, but there's an itinerary floating around where we go back to one or two cities where we didn't come close to supplying the demand first time 'round, and a few cities we didn't get to at all." That itinerary would definitely include New York City, he said. "Playing the Garden, in the middle of New York, is pretty amazing," he said. "It's one of the greatest cities, if not the greatest, in the world." Tickets for U2's two MSG shows, on June 17 and 19, were snapped up within days of going on sale Jan. 22. The Edge said the band would decide "within the next month" whether to expand the tour - but so far, they were enjoying being on the road. "It's been inspiring to play the new songs [from the album "All That You Can't Leave Behind"] in front of some of the best audiences in the world," he said. "It's a thrill every night." U2 has already beefed up its tour schedule once. When the band first announced a 33-date North American tour in January, it scheduled only one night in each city. Two weeks later, with ticket sales brisk, the musicians added additional nights in 10 cities. "We wanted the freedom to not have to make up our minds [about how many dates to play] a year in advance," the Edge said.
