U2 are investigating the possibility of playing a massive summer show in Scotland, dotmusic can confirm.

According to reports in a Scottish newspaper, the band have been speaking to council representatives about playing near Loch Lomond.

The 80,000 capacity Balloch Park is the same venue used by Oasis some five years ago.

A spokeswoman for West Dumbartonshire Council told The Daily Record. "U2 have made an enquiry to us, asking about details of Balloch Park, ideas of accommodation, numbers etc and we have provided them with that information.

"No dates or final figures have been suggested. So far, it has been a general inquiry about open-air concerts. It is very much at the preliminary stage."

A spokeswoman for U2 today told dotmusic that playing in Scotland is an option for the band, as they continue to consider the possibility of adding to their 'Elevation' schedule.

However, there are no definite plans at this stage.

No decision has yet been made by the Irish government about a second gig at Slane Castle, to follow the confirmed event on August 25.
